The Start Date and Venue of the SEA Games

The 32nd SEA Games 2023 will commence on May 5, 2023, and conclude on May 17, 2023. While the football’s first matches are on May 3, 2023. All the Games will take place in Cambodia, which is the first-time host of the SEA Games.

A total of 11 nations will participate in the 32nd SEA Games 2023, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

The 32nd SEA Games 2023 will feature 581 events, including 304 men’s events, 229 women’s events, and 48 mixed events.

The SEA Games 2023 schedule comprises the opening ceremony, closing ceremony, and 23 sports competitions. The sports competitions include aquatics, archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, billiards and snooker, boxing, cycling, equestrian, football, futsal, golf, gymnastics, judo, karate, pencak silat, petanque, rowing, sepak takraw, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, and wrestling.

Football SEA GAMES results

The Southeast Asian (SEA) Games is a multi-sport event held every two years, bringing together athletes from 11 countries in the region. The 32nd edition of the SEA Games is set to take place from May 5 to 17, 2023, in Cambodia, with a total of 37 sports listed for the event.

One of the most popular sports at the SEA Games is football, and the 2023 edition is expected to be a sizzler. Here’s what you need to know about the format of the football tournament at the Southeast Asian Games 2023 in Cambodia.

Group Stage

The football tournament will begin with a group stage, which will be held from May 5 to 11, 2023. The 11 teams will be divided into two groups: Group A and Group B. The group stage matches will be held at four different stadiums in Phnom Penh, Cambodia:

  • National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh
  • Army Stadium of Army FC
  • Prince Stadium of Visakha FC
  • Smart RSN Stadium of Phnom Penh Crown FC

Each team will play a total of four matches in the group stage, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals.

Knockout Stage

The knockout stage of the football tournament will begin on May 13, 2023, with the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals will then advance to the gold medal match, which will be held on May 16, 2023. The losers of the semi-finals will play in the bronze medal match, which will also be held on May 16, 2023.

Rules and Regulations

The football tournament at the Southeast Asian Games 2023 will follow the rules and regulations set forth by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). Each match will consist of two halves, each lasting 45 minutes, with a 15-minute break in between.

In the event of a tie at the end of the match, extra time will be played, consisting of two 15-minute halves. If the match is still tied after extra time, a penalty shootout will be held to determine the winner.

Men Under-22 Rule

One of the rules brought in by the Cambodian organizers that has drawn the ire of some nations is that the tournament will be open to players under the age of 22. This means that each team can have up to three overage players in their squad, but the majority of the players must be under the age of 22.

Football Venues and Stadium for Both Men U22 and Women

All matches of Men’s Football are in two stadium at Prince Statium, and National Stadium. The matches of women’s football are also in two stadium difference: Army Stadium, and Smart RSN Stadium. All four stadium are in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
